Scope and Contents

The Steve McKee Papers encompasses the majoirty of written work created by Stephen McKee during his professional writing career and it primarily dates from 1984-2014. It includes research, drafts, publication information, promotional material, and published copies of McKee's memoir My Fathers Heart and nonfiction book The Call of the Game. It also includes copies of his book Coach and material related to his self-published blog Centaur Seasons about early sports at DeSales University (then Allentown College). In addition to published works, the collection contains numerous unpuiblished writing projects, most notably a book manuscript titled Facing Peter, Facing AIDS about the 1980s AIDS crisis and McKee's cousin's treatment for and death from the disease. There are also materials related to McKee's time teaching in Alaska and research on the history of basketball. The collect consists primarily of print documents, photographs, books, and audio recordings of interviews.

Abstract

Steve McKee was a graduate of DeSales University, professional writer, and longtime editor at the Wall Street Journal. He wrote extensively on sports and about his family history of heart disease. His papers were donated to DeSales University posthumously and depict his major written works and his writing process.
